Lodger finds landlady’s dead body

-

“Mrs Martha Horne (57) was murdered in her three-roomed Corporation home in Perth, early yesterday morning. A post-mortem showed that a good deal of force had been used, and Mrs Horne had neck injuries – as if she had been strangled,” recorded The Post.

“Mrs Horne, mother of two children and separated from her husband, who is now in the Merchant Navy, was discovered by her lodger, Andrew Mckinnon, just before he left for work at seven o’clock yesterday morning.

“‘Just before I left,’ Mckinnon told The Sunday Post, ‘I looked into Mrs Horne’s room, and found her dead on a bed.’ He rushed to an adjoining butcher’s shop and called the police. A man was questioned by police, but later released. Mrs Horne’s two children did not stay with her.”

No record could be found of a killer ever being captured.
