Watchdog aims to deliver fairer mail order fees
A consumer watchdog is calling for people to report unfair parcel delivery charges in parts of Scotland after the costs of these have been revealed.
Research by the Scottish Parliament Information Centre (Spice) has put the extra cost at £44.8million.
The north and north-east of the country is most impacted at a combined cost of £38.6m with those in the Skye, Lochaber & Badenoch constituency having to pay the most at £9.1m a year.
As a result, Advice Direct Scotland, the country’s national consumer advice service, is urging people to use an online form to report unfair delivery charges, with information passed on to the relevant authorities.
Marjorie Gibson, head of operations, said: “This highlights the unfair treatment faced by many in remote and rural areas.
“Too many people find online bargains have hidden charges that can be missed when making a purchase. We have been working closely with the Scottish Government and Highland Council to deliver fairer deals for all.”
