Mcginn’s Copenhagen KO after he fails Covid test at Villa

Blow for Clarke ahead of crucial World Cup qualifier

- By Danny Stewart

Scotland star John Mcginn is out of Wednesday’s World Cup qualifier against Denmark after testing positive for Covid.

The midfielder is currently self-isolating, but hopes to be clear in time to face Moldova on Saturday.

Mcginn missed Aston Villa’s draw with Brentford yesterday, and will not be part of the squad that flies out for the Copenhagen crunch match.

The news is a further blow to Scotland boss, Steve Clarke, who was already resigned to being minus Scott Mctominay.

The Manchester United midfielder has taken the international break to have surgery on a groin injury. Clarke also has concerns over defender Kieran Tierney, who will be assessed by Scotland’s medical staff after receiving treatment for a bad knock in Arsenal’s 5-0 loss at Manchester City yesterday. Mcginn has reserved some of his best form for playing in dark blue, netting an overhead kick to earn a draw in the qualifier against Austria at Hampden in March.
