Hot stuff! Keep your make-up tip-top when the heat is on

- By Tracey Bryce

With the temperatures still soaring, there’s one thing on our mind – how do we keep our make-up intact?

And that’s before you mention the menopause.

Danielle Gregory, founder of Doll Beauty, outlines her guide for helping your make-up stick when the sun shines or a hot flush occurs.

Pick a primer packed with SPF

When we hear SPF, we automatically think sun cream – which isn’t the ideal primer!

But SPF really is important to not only protect your skin, but prep it. Nars Smooth and Protect Primer is ideal and contains SPF50. Get ready to celebrate your perfectly prepped base – you’re on your way to long-lasting make-up.

Concealer: Make it sweat-proof

While there are a lot of products that boast a high level of coverage, there are few I stand by as a MUA myself – especially when it’s hot.we recommend Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer as it stands the test of time even in 30-degree heat.

Choose the right foundation

We find a water-based foundation to be the best. We are obsessed with MAC’S Studio Welterweight – this is a lightweight formula and feels like you’re not wearing anything at all.

This also contains SPF 30 – so always a winner for us. For those wanting an increased level of coverage, you can build up accordingly – but don’t go overboard.

The key is keeping it lightweight.

Powder (but not too much)

Seems like the obvious choice – powder, right? Correct. But use this sparingly.

The last thing you want is complete build up of product which then becomes a bit cakey! Use the powder to set your foundation lightly gently brush over the areas that desperately need it – eg T-zone and chin.

Pop this in your bag for re-application throughout the day but don’t go wild – as the day goes on, blot rather than swipe.

Waterproof mascara’s a must

For a long-lasting look, you need your mascara to stay put day to night – we don’t want any panda eyes, do we girls?

Get your set on

Really, you should be using this whatever the weather, but it’s especially great in the summer.

Hold the spray out wide from your face and spritz. Make sure you don’t get too close and drown the skin.

Once it has settled, give a quick brush over with powder, top up the highlight and you’re good to go.
