Craig is the man with the golden touch as Bond takings soar

-

The latest James Bond film could see Daniel Craig take over from Sir Sean Connery as the highestgrossing 007.

The much-delayed No Time To Die will be released on September 30 and, if box office takings match or exceed recent previous releases, it could see Craig’s five Bond films collectively pass the inflation-adjusted £3.6 billion which Connery’s six movies earned in the 1960s and ’70s.

Craig is currently around £920 million short but his third movie, Skyfall, is estimated to have grossed around £900m, suggesting he could move into top position with the new film, which will be his final outing as Bond.

However, the record is far from assured, with cinema takings decimated by the pandemic and it remains unclear whether crowds will return to watch Bond in numbers similar to before.

Analysis by The Times found that Craig is already the top Bond for alcohol units consumed and miles covered in his films. They have also seen the highest number of women characters getting killed.

The 25th Bond film will have its world premiere on September 28 at the Royal Albert Hall in London after being delayed by Covid.
