Freddie Mercury was born in Zanzibar. He became one of the greatest and most flamboyant rock singers of all time after forming Queen in 1970.
He passed away aged 45 in 1991, due to complications of Aids.

A TV audience of 2.5 billion watched the funeral of Princess Diana, while more than one million people lined the streets outside London’s Westminster Abbey, where the service was held.
The British TV audience peaked at 32.1 million, the second most-watched programme in history.

Rapper and actor Tupac Shakur was shot in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas.
He was struck four times and died six days later, aged just 25.
SEPTEMBER 11, 1997
The Scottish public votes to have a devolved parliament in a historic referendum, with 74.3% voting in favour.
A second vote saw 63.5% in favour of it having tax-raising powers. The Scottish Parliament officially opened in July 1999.
