After extra time? Prison footballers caught trying to escape

“Four prisoners returning to Barlinnie Prison from a football match on the prison grounds rushed guards and escaped yesterday,” reported the paper.

“Three of the fugitives were captured within a few minutes of the start of their bid for freedom. But one man, 20-year-old Malcolm Mclean Barrie, of Glasgow, made good his escape. The incident occurred when the men were quite close to the prison gates. They whirled round, pushed one of the guards aside, and made across the fields. Short whistle blasts from the guards raised the alarm as they raced on in pursuit.”

No record on whether the inmate was recaptured could be found.
