SEPTEMBER 11, 1931 Actor Bill Simpson is born in Dunure, Ayrshire.
He became a hugely popular TV actor, notably for playing the title role in the BBC’S long-running series, Dr Finlay’s Casebook. The show ran for eight series from 1962 and was set in the fictional Highland village of Tannochbrae in the late 1920s. Simpson passed away in 1986, aged 55, as a result of bronchopneumonia.
