Something to swing about: Little Marcia loves her gran

So much depends on how we look at the world, and 18-month-old Leah is off to the very best start.

I had tagged along with grandparents Marcia and Pete on a walk to the play park. At one point, while Leah swung gently in a

baby swing, Marcia sat next to her on a big-kid swing. There was a pretty decent height difference.

They played, but the little one couldn’t look forward to us for craning her neck sideways. “Can you see how she’s looking at me?” Marcia asked. “She must think I’m crazy.”

“No, that’s not it,” said Pete, his tone suddenly serious and thoughtful. “I’ve seen how this relationship is going. She’s doing what she will probably spend most of her life doing.”

Both Marcia and I wanted to know. And Pete didn’t keep us waiting.

“She’s looking up to her Gran!”
