COVE RANGERS 0 STENHOUSEMUIR 0 (Cove won 4-2 on pens)

The opening exchanges saw both sides go close. In the fifth minute Connor Scully’s delivery was headed goalwards by Rory Mcallister but he failed to beat David Wilson in the Stenny goal.

Ten minutes later, Thomas Orr fashioned some space at the edge of the area to unleash a shot that thumped off Stuart Mckenzie’s post.

The visitors struck the woodwork for a second time when Ross Forbes free kick didn’t quite have enough dip on it, clipping the crossbar. Fraser Fyvie had a shot deflected just wide of the target early in the second half.

The big chance to win it was to go Cove’s way. Mitch Megginson was fed through on goals and with only the keeper to beat Wilson came up with a crucial save to deny the home skipper.

The League Two outfit defended resolutely in the closing stages to force penalties but after Forbes struck the bar for a second time and t Bernard Coll was denied by Mckenzie it was all down to Cove holding their nerve, which they did. Mcallister, Blair Yule, Fyvie and Megginson all netting.

RAITH 1 FORFAR 0 Raith - Riley-snow 25

Raith Rovers eased their way

into the third round with a victory over Forfar Athletic which was considerably more comfortable than the scoreline might suggest.

The Kirkcaldy men were always on top but, despite the constant pressure, a first half strike from Blaise Rileysnow was all they had to show for their dominance.

The visitors did provide their Championship opponents with an early scare when Ross Meehan shot high over the crossbar from a promising position but Rovers were quick to assume control and, after both Ethan Varian and Matej Poplatnik had come close to open the scoring, Riley-snow broke the deadlock, firing high in to the net.

The home side struck woodwork twice in the second half, Poplantik’s curling shot rebounding from Mccallum’s right-hand post then Dylan Tait being denied as his 20-yard free kick came back off the crossbar.

COWDENBEATH 0 ALLOA ATHLETIC 2 Alloa – Boyd (45), Scrougall (79).

In just three minutes Renton sent a shot from the edge of the box just past the post and a minute later Crawley done likewise at the other end.

With the last kick of the first half Alloa took the lead when a cross from Robertson eventually fell to Steven Boyd, who riffled home.

Robbie Buchanan almost levelled in 58 minutes but his effort was cleared off the line by Mendy.

Mahady had two good chances for the home side midway through the second half firstly sending a 20 yard shot just over before an angled shot was defected for a corner.

The second goal came 11 minutes from time when a Stefan Scrougall free kick took a deflection off the defensive wall to deceive keeper Gill.
