What’s the story behind The Mauritanian? – A
Tahar Rahim, best known for his role in The Serpent, plays real-life Guantanamo Bay detainee Mohamedou Ould Salahi, three years after he depicted real-life FBI agent Ali Soufan in 9/11 drama The Looming Tower. The movie is based on Salahi’s diary of captivity. After securing his freedom, Salahi remained friends with his guard, Steve Wood, and their bond inspired another film, the Bafta-longlisted documentary, My Brother’s Keeper.
