ARBROATH 4

Stewart (45+1), Mckenna (56), Nouble (80), Low (85) HAMILTON ACCIES 0

Arbroath manager Dick Campbell refuses to get carried away by his side’s latest big win after watching the Lichties romp to a first league victory over Accies for 43 years.

It’s the biggest win of their threeyear stay in the Championship and they now sit in third position in the table.

These are impressive facts but the experienced campaigner is keeping everything in perspective.

Campbell said: “I still want to finish third bottom of the league at the end of the season. That’s our aim.

“We played well today but we’re only five games into it.

“I want to make this a bit of a fortress and I think we are doing that.

“So we’ll move on to the next game and see what happens.”

Accies came close to opening the scoring in 40 minutes when Marley Redfern’s overhead kick crashed off the woodwork and came out to safety.

But just when it looked as though the sides would go in level at the interval, Scott Stewart popped up to bag an opportunistic goal after Ryan Fulton fumbled a cross.

The Lichties came out for the second half fired up and within 10 minutes they were further ahead, Michael Mckenna blasting home after good work from Stewart on the right side.

Accies’ hopes were blunted 20 minutes from the end when Jamie Hamilton was shown a straight red card for a heavy challenge on Stewart.

Joel Nouble heaped further misery on the visitors in 80 minutes when he coolly rounded Fulton before slotting home Arbroath’s third.

And Nicky Low topped off an amazing day for the home side with a stunning 30-yard free-kick which left Fulton helpless.

Accies boss Stuart Taylor had no excuses as he suffered defeat for the first time since taking over the reins at Hamilton.

He said: “There wasn’t much in it in the first half and we hit the woodwork when it was 0-0.

“Then we made a mistake and lost a goal. We lost another goal early in the second half and then we had the red card.

“But the red card isn’t why we lost the game. We lost because of the way we played. So we’ll review it and the young players will learn from it.”
