Yule’s late red card sees Cove hold on for a draw

-

COVE RANGERS 1 MONTROSE 1

Cove missed out on the chance to close the gap on the top two with a 61st-minute Montrose penalty cancelling out their lead.

In the end, they had to hold on for a point after Blair Yule was sent packing by referee Matt Mcdermid.

Montrose keeper Allan Fleming made an impressive double save early on to deny Fraser Fyvie, then reacted swiftly to stop Mitch Megginson as he looked to turn the rebound home.

At the other end, Graham Webster was causing the Blues defence some problems. He had the ball in the net just after the half-hour, only for the linesman’s flag to indicate he was in an offside position.

Then Webster nodded over a glorious chance just before the break.

Cove were ahead three minutes into the second half. Rory Mcallister ran on to a ball through the channel from Mitch Megginson and lashed it high into the net via the underside of the crossbar.

Fyvie was penalised for getting caught up with Blair Lyons on the hour and Webster netted the resulting spot-kick.

Blair Yule picked up a second yellow with 14 minutes left on the clock, forcing Cove to close ranks and accept the draw.

DUMBARTON 5 EAST FIFE 0

Ross Maclean put Dumbarton in front after 12 minutes, putting away the rebound after the keeper could only parry Ryan Mcgeever’s header from Conner Duthie’s free-kick.

Set-pieces were a recurring theme for Dumbarton, who led 2-0 three minutes from half-time when Gregor Buchanan headed in Callum Wilson’s delivery.

The same combination brought exactly the same result, with Buchanan bundling home from another Wilson free-kick on 66 minutes.

No. 4 came seven minutes later, with Sons’ other centre-half Mcgeever having a simple headed finish after a corner was played back across goal.

And, with three minutes left, Eoghan Stokes steamed in to power home a header from Joe Mckee’s corner.

PETERHEAD 3 CLYDE 2

Peterhead started brighter at Balmoor and went ahead on five minutes when a cross from Ritchie picked out Mccarthy, who made no mistake.

The Bully Wee equalised soon after when Mulligan fouled Goodwillie in the box. The striker then made no mistake from the penalty spot.

The Blue Toon took the lead on 18 minutes after when, after good work by

Mccarthy, Brown slotted home from the edge of the box. They then made it 3-1 60 seconds later when Mclean swerved a lovely left-footed shoot into the top corner from 12 yards.

Just before the break, Goodwillie then got his second goal of the game with a scrambled effort from eight yards.

Both teams had chances in the second half, with Goodwillie and Cunningham going close for Clyde and Lyle going close for Peterhead.

ALLOA 2 FALKIRK 0

In the opening minutes, Alloa’s on-loan striker from Hearts, Euan Henderson, came close with a well-struck right-foot shot from 18 yards which went wide.

Falkirk’s Aidan Nesbit then fired in a speculative shot from outside the box, but the shot went wide.

Henderson opened for the hosts in the 30th minute when he fired in an rightfoot shot from the centre of the box past Robbie Mutch.

The opening minutes of the second half was played in the Alloa half, with Falkirk pummeling the home defence.

Still, the Wasps broke out of defence to score their second goal of the match in the 63rd minute. Substitute striker

Connor Sammon connected with a Mark Durnan cross and, from close range, headed past the Falkirk keeper.

QUEEN’S PARK 0 AIRDRIE 0

The Spiders threatened early on when Simon Murray cracked in a trademark free-kick from 20 yards, but the ball flashed over Max Currie’s goal.

Lewis Moore’s piledriver brought out a fine stop from Currie before Liam Brown kept the keeper busy with a low drive.

On 35 minutes, Murray looked to have broken the deadlock when he cut in from the left and sent a shot into the top corner, but Currie leapt high to save.

The Diamonds best chance just before the break when Adam Frizzell sent in a daisy-cutter that scraped a post.

Early into the second half, Airdrie looked set to score when Willie Muir pushed another effort from Frizzell into the path of Calum Gallagher, but his header rose over the bar.

A goal almost came in 55 minutes when Rhys Mccabe sent a 50-yard freekick over a stranded Muir, However, the ball drifted wide of the goal.

Late on, the hosts came close with a header from Louis Longridge that Currie dived low to grab.
