Sophia’s choice of a dirty dozen beefcakes

Summer’s over which is a big saddy, but then again so is Love Island, so swings and roundabouts, eh?
For some reason (money) ITV felt the need to fill the hole left in the schedule by the now-empty Majorcan villa with Ready To Mingle which has an admittedly compelling conceit.
A single woman goes into a home with 12 suitors but half of this dozen are dirty. Six of the lads secretly already have partners who are urging their men on to woo the oblivious maiden in order to win a cash prize.
Will our heroine find a sweetheart among the swindlers?
Will one of the imposters grab the booty by, er, grabbing the booty?
Overseeing the romantic deceit is ubiquitous Canadian comic Katherine Ryan, while the mark, Sophia, is the object of the game, so to speak.
“He definitely looks like my brother, but I would get to know him,” Sophia says as she flutters her eyelashes at one hapless beefcake; even the normally expressionless Ryan raised an eyebrow.
Heavily pregnant Ryan drily rained subtle scorn on proceedings. I get the impression she’ll flourish as the series goes on.
I hope so because Ready To Mingle doesn’t have the undeniable chemistry of Love Island quite yet; say what you like about it, and I often do, but Love Island has an honest charm.
Ready To Mingle’s premise is just a wee bit too shifty.
