From the moment we wake up, many of us are tapping at our mobile phones, swiping on smartwatches and staring at screens, connecting everything from our work to our love lives, fitness routines and food. Sometimes it feels tempting to turn it all off. And you can if you fancy a digital detox break.

A new study by Uswitch reveals which are the best destinations to completely drop off the grid. The study analysed the best locations to disconnect based on several factors including – internet speed and connectivity, places to stay, things to and travel time.

In the UK study, Brecon took the top spot as the best place to drop off the grid.

The picturesque market town, known for its stunning mountains and moorlands, has an internet speed of 40.8Mbps, which is lower than the national average. It’s the perfect opportunity to turn on the “do not disturb” feature. With more than 500 places to stay and plenty of things to do, visitors won’t be itching to look at their phone or travel 53 minutes to the closest city.

Scotland proved the best staycation destination to drop off the grid, with its rolling countryside, icy mountain peaks and charming villages.

The Orkney Isles’ low internet speed of 21mbps coming in second place, Argyll and Bute, with plenty of activities to keep you off your mobile, in third.

Wales was also considered the perfect place to switch off, with Snowdonia in fourth position and Ceredigion coming in ninth.

Hartlepool in the North East was eighth and Skiddaw in the North West was tenth.

In the global stakes, the best destination for digital detox is Provence in France with and internet rate of 51.3mbps.

With gorgeous landscapes and stunning climate, where better to completely drop off the grid than on the Mediterranean coast?

Provence has over 2,000 things to do including visiting the lavender fields at Senanque Abbey or renting a boat in the Gorge du Verdon. You won’t be short of places to rest your head with 14,091 options to choose from, this little slice of paradise is the perfect place for a tech-free vacation.

The lower than average internet speed and half an hour travel to the nearest city will be the perfect opportunity for some TLC away from a screen.

It was followed by Cabo San Lucas in Mexico in second place and Vietnam’s Halong Bay in third.
