Make a splash this winter

Long gone are the days of a bathroom merely being functional – many people now transform theirs into rooms that make a statement.

Among the trends that are popular this year is bringing natural materials into the bathroom. This could be wooden panelling on walls, rattan for a bit of texture or terracotta and clay accessories. Some people even choose to fill some corners and areas of dead space with plants (and it’s handy to have them near a sink for watering!).

Exposing and refinishing the home’s existing stonework can also made a big impact.

Not only do natural materials have more of a green touch, they also help create a relaxing, ‘back to nature’ feel in your bathroom – ideal if you want to enjoy a long soak in a bath.

Copper fixtures have also become more popular, as they don’t just add a bit of colour but also a retro feel. Taps, handles, hanging baskets – whatever metalwork you have in your bathroom, why not opt for copper as your choice if you are making some changes?

For those who want to add some colour and vibrancy to their bathroom, there are plenty of choices.

Patterned bathroom tiles are experiencing a resurgence, as is brightly coloured wallpaper (particularly pink and green).

There’s also the option of making the accessories your pops of colour – keeping the bathroom suite and other permanent fixtures classic allows you to chop and change trends without having to rip everything out and start from scratch.

You can change curtains (both for windows and for showers), mats, toothbrush holders, lightshades and more as your tastes change.

For those who want to add some colour and vibrancy to their bathroom, there are plenty of choices

So whether you want to create a serene oasis for relaxing soaks or something more vibrant, there are plenty of ways to update and improve your bathroom.
