You’ve got it covered with Proteks

- By Laura Coventry

Not many companies can claim that they have 45 years of excellence, but Proteks can. It is a brand that specialises in wall coverings that offer a lasting finish – up to seven times longer than normal paint.

Proteks has been applied to walls of homes, garages, sheds, roofs and business premises since the 1970s – instead of painting and roughcasting – and today has become a market leader in Scotland. The “Proteks System” is a water-repellent application, yet a breathable membrane, so it not only protects properties from decay and high maintenance bills, it also extends the building’s life expectancy, keeping it looking young and fresh.

Proteks is a cost-effective alternative as it saves homeowners from repeatedly applying expensive exterior paint as the years go by. Its website www.proteks.co.uk asks: “Why paint every few years when you can ‘Proteks’ just once?”

In fact, Proteks, which is owned by Advanced Wall Solutions, can guarantee it will last for 25 years.

And there is proof, as the Proteks team has been reapplying it for customers who first had this “system” installed on their building exteriors 25 years ago. Because they have seen how durable Proteks is, they have come back to the company to ask for it to be reapplied, guaranteeing them a durable finish for another 25 years!

One shining example of a Proteks wall that has stood the test of time is the listed building Dess House in Aboyne, which had the wall coating applied some 26 years ago – and it is still looking fresh. Today, Proteks is available in 120 colours, from greys and browns to blues and greens. However, when it was first created, it was available only in a clear, colourless state – and this was used as a coating on the hulls of warships to keep them at sea for longer in order to help the war effort.

Since then, the product has been developed, not only in terms of its colours but in its choice of finish too – today, customers can choose from clear, textured or smooth.

While the most popular choice of colours is white, off-white or magnolia, the Proteks System comes into its own when customers want to personalise their sills and combine with attractive, complementary colours on their trims.
