Morgyn makes merry with a late winner

-

These teams became very well acquainted with each other in the closing weeks of last season, so there was little either manager could do to spring a surprise.

Paul Hartley’s men were the first to threaten, with Jamie Masson’s close-range effort being smuggled away by some committed defending.

At the other end, Salim KouiderAissa really should have done better with a header, but he glanced wide.

Scott Ross and Harry Milne tried their luck from distance, but Max Currie was equal to the task on both occasions, keeping it goalless at the break.

Neither team was giving an inch in the second half, but Morgyn Neill very nearly gave the home side the lead when his header from an Iain Vigurs’ free-kick struck the crossbar.

The decisive moment arrived in the final minute of regulation time when former Don Shay Logan delivered an inch perfect delivery from the right and Neill rose to head his first goal for the Blues into the top corner of the net from six yards out.

EAST FIFE 0 CLYDE 2

It took until the quarter-of-anhour mark for East Fife to register a shot on target, but Andrew Osei-bonsu’s effort was tame and comfortable for Neil Parry.

Osei-bonsu was looking like East Fife’s main threat and, a few minutes later, dragged an effort inches wide.

Clyde’s best chance came on the half-hour mark when Robert Jones’ close-range header sailed over the bar.

In the second half, Clyde’s Euan Deveney did well to slip past his marker and sent a cross along the face of goal the Fifers had to scramble to clear.

The hosts had openings of their own, with both Aaron Dunsmore and Danny Denholm passing up chances.

They were made to pay for their missed chances on 73 minutes when Clyde went ahead. David Goodwillie picked out Ross Cunningham on the edge of the box and he lashed a terrific strike beyond Jude Smith.

A few minutes later, Cunningham lashed home No. 2 from a few yards out.

DUMBARTON 1 ALLOA 1

The first half was scrappy with few clear chances for either side, but, right on the interval, the Wasps took the lead when Steven Boyd finished from close range.

Dumbarton responded with a Conner Duthie shot early in the second half which the visiting keeper did well to turn over, while other home players missed chances.

It looked like being one of those days for Sons, but, with 10 minutes left, Pat Boyle – who returned this year to the club he won the Third Division with in 2009 – headed home Callum Wilson’s corner.

The two teams fought valiantly to secure a late winner, but, again, clear chances were few.

After the final whistle, Ferguson was involved in some heated exchanges with supporters in the away end of the Moreroom.com Stadium.

QUEEN’S PARK 3 PETERHEAD 2

The Spiders took the lead after five minutes. Blue Toon keeper Brett Long had produced stunning stops to deny Grant Gillespie and Michael Doyle before Tommy Robson scored when he exchanged passes with Simon Murray before shooting home.

Liam Brown was denied a second by a post after a dazzling run for the visitors, and they had strong shouts for a penalty when Russell Mclean was flattened by home goalkeeper Willie Muir.

Just before the break, a mistake by Simon Ferry allowed Murray to dart through and, after skipping past Long, the striker shot for goal only for Ferry to pop up on the line to block.

A leveller came on 51 minutes when Ritchie scrambled in a sixyard effort and, three minutes later, Peterhead led when sub Derek Lyle slammed in a Josh Mulligan cutback.

It was 2-2 when Luca Connell drilled a low shot past Long from 18 yards, with the hosts grabbing the winner when Bob Mchugh set up Jack Thomson to slot home.

Lyle almost grabbed a last-gasp equaliser, but he hit the bar.

MONTROSE 2 FALKIRK 2

Montrose were awarded a penalty in 24 minutes when Andrew Steeves had been fouled in the box. Graham Webster stepped up to take it, but his shot was saved Robbie Mutch.

Shortly after, Falkirk’s Charles Telfer hit the bar.

Falkirk were denied on 48 minutes when Adrian Nesbitt hit the bar with a shot which bounced down, but referee Dan Macfarlane was unimpressed.

The Gable Endies took the lead on 60 minutes when Webster was released on the right by Craig Johnston and he fired an angled shot into the left-hand corner.

Webster increased Montrose’s lead in 76 minutes when Lewis Milne squared the ball to him in space on the left side of the box and his left-footed effort gave Mutch no chance.

Falkirk came back strongly and, when they won a free-kick just outside the box on 78 minutes, substitute Aidan Keena fired it high into the net from 20 yards.

The Bairns equalised in timeadded when Michael Ruth prodded the ball over the line from a deflected cross delivered by Sebastian Ross.
