MORTON 2 Oliver (46), Blues (55) ARBROATH 2 C Hamilton (42), Mckenna (87, pen)

-

Michael Mckenna rammed home from the spot three minutes from time to snatch a draw and extend Arbroath’s unbeaten run to seven games.

Morton boss Gus Macpherson said: “There are some things you can’t control. The work ethic was fantastic and we went behind against the run of play.

“We were excellent in the game and lost a poor goal from a set-piece. They responded in the right manner.

“Jaakko Oksanen was head and shoulders from everyone on the park.”

The Red Lichties carved out the first opening after 22 minutes when midfielder James Craigen pounced on a loose ball, but his 25-yard effort was well held by Morton goalkeeper Jack Hamilton.

Morton should have taken the lead three minutes later when Oksanen floated over a cross from the left but Alan Lithgow failed to get his head to the ball in front of an open goal.

Arbroath took the lead three minutes from the interval when Michael Mckenna’s free-kick from the left found Colin Hamilton unmarked six yards out and his downward header flew past his brother Jack.

But Arbroath were all at sea in the first minute of the second period when Gavin Reilly drilled the ball in from the right.

Gaston failed to hold it and Gary Oliver whipped the ball high into the net from close range for the equaliser.

It was shot-shy Morton’s first goal in five league outings.

Boosted by that, a rejuvenated Morton went ahead in 55 minutes when Brentford loanee Oksanen flicked the ball to Cameron Blues, who ran in from the right to crack a low 15-yard shot past Gaston.

Arbroath maintained their unbeaten run with a penalty three minutes from time after Mcentee elbowed Colin

Hamilton in the face and Mckenna netted his seventh of the season.

Arbroath assistant manager Iain Campbell said: “It was a good game for the neutrals and it was a fair result. Morton played well.

“We were disappointed at the goals we lost but we got our just rewards in the end.”
