Second-half sway gives Rothes final say

-

Rothes added the North of Scotland Cup to their sideboard, and sitting beside the Highland League Cup, as they came from a goal down to defeat Brora Rangers.

The victory makes this the second-most successful period in their history.

Brora got off to a perfect start and, once again, it was the youngster on loan from Ross County, Matthew Wright, who was hitting the back of the net, slotting a low cross into the bottom corner of the goal.

It was to be the only goal of the first half.

Ross Jack’s half-time team talk clearly worked as, within three minutes, the Speysiders were level as Michael Finnis showed

the desire to turn the tide in the Moray club’s favour.

With 15 minutes to go, Ryan Mcritchie gave Rothes the lead from another set-piece, knocking it past Joe Malin’s left hand to find the corner of the net from close range, sparking wild celebrations amongst the large contingent in tangerine on the Grant Park terracing

CLACHNACUDDIN 1 FRASERBURGH 2

In League action, Fraserburgh’s Lewis Duncan smashed in a shot from just outside the box that flew into the postage stamp corner of the net with barely a minute gone.

Clach restored the equilibrium in the 10th minute. Good work from Scott Morrison saw him whip the ball into the near post area where James Anderson got across the face of his man to head it into the corner of the net.

Despite seeing Kieran Simpson sent off in the final minute, Owen Cairns fed Scott Barbour, who found the bottom corner with his left foot from eight yards to give the Broch another three points.

BRECHIN 3 BUCKIE TH 2

Brechin started brightly and grabbed the opening goal in the 12th minute when Jack Milne slotted home a Kieran Inglis pass.

Inglis got on the score-sheet

himself a minute into the second half when he converted from the penalty spot after he had been brought down in the box.

However, Buckie reduced the deficit just a couple of minutes later when Sam Urquhart had time and space to pick his spot in the net following a quick break.

They then dramatically grabbed the equaliser three minutes later when Jack Murray blasted home a great drive from 18 yards.

City stormed back and they scored what proved to be the winner in the 59th minute when Marc Scott drilled home a low drive.

The visitors were reduced to 10 men a minute from time when Sam Morrison was shown the red card.

FORT WILLIAM 1 WICK 3

Having picked up their first point of the season in midweek with a 3-3 draw with Nairn, Fort William went in hunt of a victory at Harmsworth Park and were in front when Marios Avraam placed the ball beyond the visiting keeper in the 16th minute.

Andrew Hardwick levelled the game 12 minutes before half-time.

Wick skipper Jack Halliday’s

20-yard blast flew into the back of the net to put Wick in front, and the three points were bagged when David Allan headed home after a Ross Allan free-kick was too hot for the Fort keeper to handle.

FORRES 0 KEITH 0

The Maroons have tightened up at the back and haven’t lost a goal since teenager Dem Yunus stepped back from his midfielder berth, so there was little surprise to find chances were at a premium in a goalless first half.

The Can Cans, who had enjoyed the majority of possession in the first period, looked to open the game up in the second half, but, when they did break through the visitors defence, they found Craig Reid in good form as the match drifted to an inevitable stalemate.

TURRIFF UNITED 4 DEVERONVALE 0

The day started off in dream fashion for Turriff when a 35-yard free-kick from captain James Chalmers appeared to deceive Sean Mcintosh, who dived the wrong way.

In 54 minutes, Kyle Buxton

added a second when Clark set him up to cut in from the left and fire a right-footed shot past Mcintosh.

Two minutes later, it was Buxton again with an angled effort.

Matthew Mcdonald made it a day of celebration with a powerful

left-footer, again into the corner.

NAIRN 0 INVERURIE 1

The only goal of a poor game came in 18 minutes. Ross Still got his head to a corner and it fell to Kieran Shanks. His attempt was blocked, but Neil Gauld was wellplaced to knock the ball home from close range.

The visitors created the better chances in the second half, which saw County’s Adam Porritt sent off for a second yellow offence in 67 minutes.

Shanks then went close to doubling his side’s lead when his low drive took a slight deflection and fizzed past the far post.

With six minutes to go, he was again denied when his goalbound effort was blocked by substitute Rory Williamson.

With time running out, Scott Davidson fired just over for the hosts.
