Police probe after death of teen at train station
A teenager died after being seriously injured at a train station in Glasgow last night. It is understood the 14-year-old was not hit by a train and police have launched an investigation.
The teenage boy was rushed to hospital after the incident at High Street station shortly before 4pm but died shortly after.
Several ambulances and police cars were still at the scene on Saturday evening. Scotrail closed the station causing disruption to one of the lines from Glasgow to Edinburgh. Passengers were advised to use alternative stations. High Street was also closed to motorists.
Detective Inspector Iain Nelson of Greater Glasgow Division said: “This has been a shocking loss of a young life and a significant investigation is under way.
“Specialist officers are supporting the boy’s family at this incredibly difficult time. Enquiries continue to establish the full circumstances and anyone who can help is urged to get in touch as soon as possible.”
Police have asked anyone who was in the area at the time or has information which may be relevant to the investigation to call 101 and quote incident 2280.
The station remained locked down for several hours as police and forensic teams examined the scene.
