Garbage released their seventh album last year, recorded before the pandemic.
No Gods No Masters included the biting track The Men Who Rule The World. Manson said: “Governments remain almost entirely made up of old white men. I’m not saying there are no women in government, what I’m saying is that we need equal representation.
“We need to solve climate change, racism, xenophobia, sexism, homophobia, and just keeping on going down the route of old white men isn’t going to get us anywhere.”
Edinburgh-born Manson spent lockdown in the Hollywood home she shares with sound engineer husband Billy Bush, weathering more than just a pandemic.
She said: “Where I live in Hollywood is really close to where the protests were last year, and we had helicopters flying around the house 24/7. That was distressing. Then we had a earthquake, and I flipped out.
“It was one too many things. We were still under Trump, and there was this daily aggravation that everything was out of control. I screamed to my husband: ‘I want to go home!’”
