Ross bows out despite thumping victory

-

Kirkintilloch curler Ross Paterson and his team failed to reach the Champery Masters quarter-finals despite an easy victory in Switzerland yesterday.

Two wins and two defeats had left the former Grand Slam champion in third place in Pool B, and yesterday’s 6-1 demolition of Swiss skip Jan Iseli came too late for Team Paterson to progress as Moscow’s Sergei Glukhov qualified instead.

Forfar junior James Craik kept his faint lasteight hopes alive by defeating Dutchman Jaap van Dorp 7-2, but fellow Scots Cameron Bryce and Mark Watt both lost.

Meanwhile, Edinburgh’s Bruce Mouat plays his first match since being selected for the Winter Olympics when he faces American Rich Ruohonen at The Masters Grand Slam tournament in Oakville, Ontario on Tuesday.
