Not-so-bonnie Rose as Henderson hits hat-trick

-

ALLOA 5 BONNYRIGG ROSE 0

Bonnyrigg were no match to Alloa, who romped home, with hat-trickster Euan Henderson leading with way.

The home side opened the scoring in the 13th minute when, after some fantastic play from Scougall, Mouhamed Niang connected with a Stefan Scougall cross from the left and, from the edge of the box, fired the ball past Michael Andrews in the Rose goal.

The home side continued to pressure the visitors and scored their second goal in the 20th minute when Euan Henderson connected with a Stephan Scougal cross at the edge of the box and fired in an unstoppable shot past Andrews.

Henderson scored Alloa’s third in the 70th minute when his strong right-foot shot beat the visitors’ keeper from close range.

The Wasps dominated play and Henderson scored his third and the host’s fourth goal in the 83rd minute.

As the game wore on, Mohamed Niang netted No. 5 to ease the home side into the next round.

LOTHIAN THISTLE 1 EDINBURGH CITY 2

Thistle came out strongly and Kenny O’brien had a great chance, but skied his shot from 20 yards and, five minutes later, Ryan Findlay shot past.

But City soon found their feet and Alex Ferguson hit their first real chance past the post in the 12th minute.

He then did the same five minutes later.

Stephen Bronsky headed past in the 20th minute as City kept up the pressure against the East League side.

It paid dividends on 35 minutes when John Robertson sent over a perfect cross, which was met by Daniel Handling’s right foot and he prodded home from close in.

City went two up before the turn when Alex Ferguson’s pass was accepted by Innes Murray, who slotted the ball in.

Thistle had several chances, with Ran Findlay firing past twice early in the second half, and Sandy Cunningham’s shot was stopped just before the hour.

But, after a strong second half, all they had to show was an 82nd-minute header from Errol Douglas.

STENHOUSEMUIR 0 AIRDRIEONIANS 2

The Warriors started well, with Euan O’reilly causing problems against his own team.

They were missing a focal point up front with their main strikers missing, though Ryan Tierney, in his first start since August, did well and he was unlucky not to get a penalty after his run seemed to end with a push in the back.

Airdrie, however, in a fairly even first period, took the lead in the 37th minute when the ball fell to Adam Frizzell and he guided a curling shot into the net.

This gave the visitors the lift and they scored their second through Scott Mcgill.

Stenhny kept battling away and a superb stop by Max Currie from a Tierney header stopped the hosts from getting a consolation goal.

CLYDEBANK 2 CLYDE 0

Both sides had first-half penalty appeals denied. First, when Clydebank’s Liam Mcgonigle was upended inside the area, before David Goodwillie went down at the other end.

Bankies made the breakthrough just before half-time when Matt Niven teed up Jamie Darroch to crash in the opener via the underside of the bar.

The all-important second arrived midway through the second half when Lee Gallacher’s free-kick from the right was perfect for skipper Nicky Little to nod the ball past Neil Parry in the Clyde goal and send the home fans delirious.

The home side went in search of a third and almost found it as both Mcgonigle and Niven blazed over on a memorable day for Gordon Moffat’s men.

DUMBARTON 3 SAUCHIE 1

Carlo Pignatiello fired Dumbarton in front after 24 minutes after exchanging passes with Conner Duthie and rolling home an angled shot.

But the home side were pegged back just before the hour, with Gary Smith converting from the spot after he was fouled in the box.

Sons put the pressure on, with Duthie and Ryan Schiavone missing chances as a level scoreline loomed. But, a minute into time-added, Joe Mckee thrashed

home a loose ball inside the box to restore their lead.

And, after a further two minutes of added time, the keeper saved from Duthie, only for the ball to fall perfectly for Schiavone to tap home.

DALBEATTIE STAR 1 EAST KILBRIDE 2

Star started on top with Lewis Sloan’s fierce shot deflected past for a corner, and then Steven Degnan’s ninth-minute header was tipped past the post by Kilby keeper Conor Brennan.

In the 32nd minute, he had a golden opportunity, but hit the upright with the goal at his mercy.

Kilby’s first real effort came in the 37th minute when Gregg Wylde headed right across goal from a corner and the ball went inches past.

But, with three minutes of the first half left, the visitors took the lead when Neil Mclaughlin beat Star keeper Luke Holt with a penalty which was hotly disputed.

They went two ahead in the 64th minute when Steven Saunders finished off a Steven Old corner.

Star went on the attack and dominated late on, with Steven Degnan heading in a Lewis Sloan cross on 69 minutes.
