Kelty win and get boost from Forfar defeat

-

KELTY HEARTS moved 12 points clear at the top after defeating third-placed ANNAN 3-1 with a polished display and then seeing Forfar crash against Stenhousemuir.

Kelty went in front when a Michael Tidser free-kick was headed into his own net by Annan’s Owen Moxon after five minutes. In the 16th minute, Jamie Barjonas’ curling shot sailed into the net for Kelty’s second. Joe Cardle looked to have sealed the points in the 72nd minute when he fired in from 15 yards to put the Maroon Machine 3-0 up, but, with 12 minutes left, Annan pulled one back when Robert Mccartney scored with a low shot from 10 yards.

ELGIN CITY eased their relegation worries by ending a five-game losing streak with a 3-1 victory over 10-man STIRLING ALBION. City struck the opening goal on nine minutes.great work down the left by Russell Dingwall led to a low cross and Darryl Mchardy pounced to ram the ball into the roof of the net. The home side stuck a second when Rabin Omar showed great control and a clinical finish against his former club. Stirling’s day got worse when centre-half Jordan Mcgregor was shown a straight red card for a late challenge on Kane Hester after half-an-hour. On 81 minutes, Hester finally sealed victory with a solo effort inside the box. Brian Cameron twice hit the woodwork for Elgin late on, but the win took the north side out of the bottom three.

STENHOUSEMUIR beat FORFAR ATHLETIC 2-0 and took the lead in a relatively-controversial fashion as referee Mike Roncone overruled his assistant to award Stenhousemuir a corner. From the set-play, Ross Forbes’ cross was flicked on to the back post for Robert Thomson to prod home. Forfar were further behind just after the resumption when Adam Corbett passed the ball past Lewis Sanderson and into the net after good build up play by Thomson and Tom Orr.

The STRANRAER v ALBION ROVERS encounter finished goalless – a game of few chances as the wind made much of the tie a lottery.
