The countdown to the warmer days and the planning of summer holidays to far-flung destinatio­ns have begun.

And it looks like the islands off Africa’s west coast could be the top spot for Brits in 2022. Google Trends data shows searches for Cape Verde have skyrockete­d recently by 733.33%.

But where else have Brits got their eye on? A study by Betway shows the top-10 hotspots.

1 Cape Verde – Search volume increase: 733.33%

From its lush tropical climate, volcanic islands and mouth-watering cuisine, there is no wonder Cape Verde gets the top spot.

2 Mexico – SVI: 645.45%

Full of culture, sand and sea, Mexico boasts the world’s largest pyramid and a plethora of museums.

3 Portugal – SVI: 583.33%

Whether you fancy a stroll through the vineyards in the Valley of the River Douro, or a culture trip through Porto Old Town, this beautiful country offers many delights.

4 Italy – SVI: 352.38%

Drenched in some of the world’s most varied and scenic landscapes, Italy promises adventure, beauty and delicious cuisine.

5 Greece – SVI: 342.86%

It seems a lot of Brits are ready to live out their Mamma Mia! fantasy, with gorgeous sunsets, crystal-blue seas and amazing breakfasts.

6 Thailand – SVI: 342.86%

Thailand is a relatively affordable country once you’re there, boasting economical accommodat­ion as well as food and drink.

7 Spain – SVI: 342.86%

From the fun nightlife of Ibiza to the tranquil paradise that is the Canary Islands, there is certainly no summer like a Spanish summer.
