The relief! It’s like someone taking a big weight off your shoulders

-

Ms Susan Terris and her partner of 35 years recently decided to get their Wills and Power of Attorney (POA) sorted with ILAWS Scotland.

Like many people, Susan was aware of the importance of POA but kept putting it off. She said: “You never get around to doing it yourself. Before I retired, my job was home help. You hear about it, it comes up all the time. You’re thinking ‘oh I’ll need to do that’, but you never quite push on.

“I just thought to myself, I’ll have to fix this now because I’m in my seventies. If you don’t do it now, you might never get the chance.”

Susan started looking for a reliable firm and discovered ILAWS online. “Once I was on to ILAWS, I didn’t really have to think about much because they’re so nice and informative. You just think, I’m in good hands here,” explains Susan.

“They let you know everything, every step of the way. They tell you what to expect and just reassure you of everything, they deal with it so well. You felt looked after.”

Now all the legal documents are organised for Susan and her partner, which she’s pleased with. She said: “You can relax now that you know you’ve done it. The relief! It’s like someone taking a big weight off your shoulders.

“It’s terrific. We each have our affairs sorted out, the Wills done, the POAS done. Everything is really sorted and I like that. It gives you such peace of mind.”

So, what advice would Susan have for anyone considering organising legal documents of this nature? Overall, she stresses the importance of finding a good firm. She ends: “I would say to them, if you have a firm get your POA sorted. And if you’ve not got a firm, then go to ILAWS because they’ll see you alright. It’s an essential piece of kit really. Everybody should get that into their mind.”
