DUNFERMLINE ATH 1 MONTROSE 0

Nikolay Todorov headed Dunfermline to the top of the league with a late clincher.

Todorov stooped to head home an excellent Kyle Macdonald cross to send most of the 3,720 fans home happy.

The hosts started strongly and Craig Wighton saw a shot blocked after Lewis Mccann had taken advantage of slack defensive play. Mccann had a chance himself shortly afterwards, but could not get any power in his shot.

Blair Lyons responded for Montrose, but his effort was turned over the top by Deniz Mehmet. Rory Mcallister had a chance later in the first half, but could not keep his shot down.

Chris Hamilton came close for the Pars late in the first half, but could not steer his header on target.

Todorov lifted the home crowd when he headed home a Kyle Macdonald cross with 12 minutes left.

Mccann had a chance to make the closing stages more comfortable, but Dunfermline were worth their victory.

FALKIRK 3 PETERHEAD 1

Falkirk’s League 1 campaign is officially up and running after Ryan Williamson’s equaliser at the end of the first half turned yesterday’s game on its head.

Having taken just a single point from their opening two fixtures, the Bairns were facing another deflating result when Max Gillies fired Peterhead in front, despite the home side dominating the first 45 minutes and forcing keeper Jack Newman to make five crucial saves.

Falkirk looked certain to be behind at the break, but Williamson pulled the Bairns level in time-added.

The turnaround continued early in the second period when midfielder Callumn Morrison strode forward unopposed before flicking the ball past Newman with the outside of his right boot.

Falkirk were rampant now, although they could never completely relax until sub Gary Oliver grabbed the killer third goal in the 90th minute. Peterhead finished with 10 men after Conor O’keefe was red-carded near the end.

ALLOA 1 FC EDINBURGH 4

The home side took the lead when Connor Sammon connected with a Ross Maciver cross and powerfully headed home from close range past visiting keeper Robbie Mutch.

FC Edinburgh got themselves back into the match, levelling with a John Robertson six-yard right-foot shot past Hogarth.

Roberston scored his second goal when he connected with a Callum Crane pass and, one-on-one with the home keeper, fired in a left-foot shot.

Former Alloa player Innes Murray scored the visitors’ third with a 20-yard free-kick.

The home side continued to fight, and they pulled one back when Ross Mciver fired home. However, the visitors pressed in the closing minutes and substitute Danny Handling made it 4-1.

CLYDE 3 KELTY HEARTS 0

Kelty made the early running, with Robbie Mcnab seeing his shot saved before Kyle Doherty sent a header narrowly wide.

Kelty went even closer when Joe Cardle’s shot drew a fine diving save from Neil Parry. Clyde responded with efforts from Ross Lyon and Curtis Roberts which were saved by Darren Jamieson.

With half-time approaching, Morgaro Gomis was unlucky to see his firm leftfoot shot sneak inches wide, while the home side threatened again through Peter Grant’s header which went just beyond an upright.

The breakthrough came eight minutes after the restart when Ross Cunningham latched on to Erik Sula’s chipped pass and calmly beat Jamieson at the bottom right-hand corner.

Gomis volleyed wide and then had another effort saved by Jamieson as the Bully Wee went for the jugular.

At the other end, a Darren Lyon header flashed wide before Clyde sealed the points when Euan Cameron fired high into the net following a good passing move. Cunningham rubbed salt in Kelty’s wounds with a breakaway third.

QOS 1 AIRDRIEONIANS 1

Airdrieonians had the early chances at Palmerston and their pressure paid off on 19 minutes.

Player-boss Rhys Mccabe’s free-kick was fumbled by Max Currie, which allowed Calum Gallagher to tap home into an empty net.

Queens had chances to level as Airdrie’s backline started to make mistakes. Gavin Reilly robbed Callum Fordyce inside the box, but his shot was brilliantly saved by Murray Johnson.

Five minutes later, the Airdrie stopper made a poor clearance straight into the path of Ruari Paton, but, luckily for the visitors, the forward fired wide.

The hosts changed their shape in the second half and it worked a treat as Paton delivered into the box and Reilly pounced from close range on the hour mark.

Kieran Mckechnie was so close to scoring the winner late on, but his fierce 25-yard shot was tipped wide by a fullstretched Johnson.

Willie Gibson’s men are yet to taste their first victory since dropping down to the third tier.
