Brendan on the brink as the Foxes falter yet again
Brendan Rodgers was under mounting pressure last night after his Leicester City side were thrashed 6-2 at Tottenham.
The former Celtic boss’s team are without a Premier League win this season, and this latest defeat sees them rooted at the bottom of the table with just one point from seven games.
Rodgers said: “You have to win games. I can’t hide from that, it is my responsibility.
“Whatever happens, I will have a huge amount of respect for the owners because they’ve given me great support.
“If I stay and continue to fight on, I will always respect them.”
Leicester had gone ahead early through a twice-taken Youri Tielemans penalty, but Spurs were back on terms when Harry Kane headed in Dejan Kulusevski’s cross.
They went in front when Eric Dier flicked in a corner, but the Foxes were level before halftime through James Maddison.
Spurs regained the lead early in the second half with Rodrigo Bentancur’s curling shot, then substitute Son clipped a sublime finish home from 20 yards.
The South Korean then added another well-taken goal before completing a 13-minute hat-trick after VAR ruled him onside.
Erling Haaland scored again as Manchester City moved top of the Premier League after sweeping past 10-man Wolves 3-0 at Molineux.
Jack Grealish fired City in front after just 53 seconds before Haaland scored his 14th goal in 10 appearances for City.
Wolves’ Nathan Collins was shown a straight red card for a reckless challenge on Grealish, and Phil Foden added the gloss 20 minutes from time.
Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United drew 1-1 with his former club, Bournemouth at St James’ Park.
Philip Billing put the visitors ahead but Alexander Isak levelled with a penalty.
