No stroll in the park but Broch go through

-

FRASERBURGH made amends for an early exit last season with a narrow win over Lowland League opponents CIVIL SERVICE STROLLERS.

The Highland League champions went ahead after only eight minutes with a close-in shot from Connor Boyd which ended up in the corner of the net.

Worse was to follow for Strollers when they went 2-0 down on the half hour mark when Sean Butcher had only to tap the ball into the net from a few yards from a Ross Aitken cross.

Itwasatoughsecondhalfwith defences on top but Strollers sparked real life into the closing 20 minutes when a double substitution paid dividends. Lewis Duffy was only on the field for two minutes when he headed them back into the game from a Marc Laird free-kick but Fraserburgh held out for victory.

A pulsating cup-tie saw DEVERONALE just lose out to their visitors EAST KILBRIDE.

Cameron Elliot put Kilby ahead after just six minutes but the home side deservedly levelled eight minutes from the break when Innes Mckay headed home from six yards following a deflected free-kick.

The visitors went ahead again on the hour mark as Ronan Hughes capitalised on poor defending in the Vale box to score from 10 yards but, 10 minutes later, they were reduced to 10 men as Logan Dunachie was shown a second yellow card.

Reece Mcguire, however, added a third for East Kilbride with eight minutes remaining but Vale pushed again and Dane Ballard reduced the deficit to one from the spot within two minutes.

However, with the game deep in injury time, Mcguire made sure of the victory with fourth counter.

BANKS O’ DEE edged past TURRIFF UNITED 4-0. A secondhalf penalty from Neil Gauld broke the visitors’ resistance after Kane Winton was brought down. Winton, sub Lachie Macleod and Lewis Crosbie added some late gloss to the scoreline.

DRUMCHAPEL UNITED made it through to the second round with a 3-1 victory at NAIRN COUNTY.

The visitors took the lead from the penalty spot after Nairn goalkeeper Dylan Maclean bundled over Martin Grehan who dusted himself off to tuck home from 12 yards.

Drumchapel were fortunate to avoid going down to 10 men moments later when Andrew Geggan was only cautioned for an over the ball, scissors tackle on Wayne Mackintosh.

Geggan’s long-range volley hadtobedealtwithbynairn goalkeeper Dylan Maclean who dived to his right to touch the ball wide on 18 minutes.

Maclean was called into action again a minute later when he saved David Templeton’s effort.

Alexander Mcwaters’ effort from a tight angle was touched over by Maclean on 40 minutes.

Scott Davidson teed up Conor Gethins a minute before the break but his lofted effort drifted over the Drumchapel crossbar.

Alec Docherty turned inside the box on to his right foot and stroked the ball low into the far corner to double Drumchapel’s lead on the stroke of half-time.

Docherty almost repeated the feat on 71 minutes but his low effort was clutched by Maclean.

The visitors made sure of their place in the next round on 73 minutes when Daniel Finnigan took advantage of a defensive mix-up to roll the ball into the empty net.

Nairn grabbed a consolation 12 minutes from the end when Adam Porritt’s cut back was slid home by Andrew Greig.

Lowland League outfit EAST STIRLINGSHIRE were ahead at North Lodge Park thanks to Andy Kay’s 32nd minute finish but FORMARTINE UNITED turned the tie on its head with two goals early in the second half.

Skipper Kieran Lawrence netting two minutes after unfortunate own goal. Aaron Norris then put the result beyond doubt.

FORRES MECHANICS were strong favourites coming into the game but it took veteran centre-back Graham Fraser to cancel out John Wight’s opener for GLASGOW UNIVERSITY. Antonio Sisi put the students back in front before the break after a long freekick was loaded into the danger area. Ryan Mcleman responded quickly to tie things up right on the half time whistle. The students completed their shock win with a wonderful looping header from Cal Davidson six minutes from time.

Jordan Moore put CUMNOCK in front from the penalty spot just before the half hour but Matthew Tough restored parity for KEITH from close range, just ahead of the break. Greg Ferry met a near post corner to score the winner for Cumnock early in the second half.

BUCKIE THISTLE squeezed past LOSSIEMOUTH into the second round. Marcus Goodall was on target twice in the opening 20 minutes, lifting the away fans expectations of a goalfest. It didn’t materialise and Lossie raised the temperature of the tie when Ross Archibald pulled one back with a fine header.

Despite a positive first-half performance, STRATHSPEY THISTLE found themselves a goal behind to visitors CAMELON JUNIORS when Mitch Taylor slotted home from the penalty spot. The home side collapsed in the second half conceding four more goals.

Taylor added two more to claim the match ball while Keiran Anderson and Lewis Mcarthur also netted for the Mighty Mariners
