Grrrrl power! Watch out for Lizzo, who has what it takes to rule the world of showbizzo

-

What do Whoopi Goldberg, tim Rice and Audrey Hepburn all have in common? They’re all massive Egots! No, they are not big heads with huge egos, the three – and 14 others – have all won an Emmy, a Grammy an Oscar and a Tony (EGOT): the four big awards in entertainment.

Now fans of Lizzo wonder if she will be the next to join the select group. She already has three Grammys and last Sunday night she won an Emmy for Lizzo’s Watch Out For The Big Grrrls, a Prime Video series about big women.

All she has left to achieve is an Oscar and a Tony and, at 34 years old, she has plenty time.

Lizzo is great value and with pop songs like Juice and Good As Hell we’re going to be seeing a lot more of her I reckon.

“The trophy is nice, but my emotion is for these people who are with me,” she said at the Emmys, as she appeared on stage with some of the women who featured in the series. “The stories that they shared, they’re not that unique,” she added.“they just don’t get told. Let’s just tell more stories.

“When I was a little girl, all I wanted to see was me in the media. Someone fat like me. Black like me. Beautiful like me.”

“If I could go back and tell little Lizzo something, I would be like, ‘You’re going to see that person, but it’s going to have to be you.”

It was a really powerful moment. I felt like cheering myself!

The Emmys was a great night for another wonderful woman – Hannah Waddingham.

Last month I tipped her series, ted Lasso, to win big on the evening and indeed it did, picking up prizes including for outstanding comedy series.

Jason Sudeikis, the show’s star, also won for his part in creating the football comedy.

Sudeikis has made headlines lately due to his split from Olivia Wilde. She was dramatically served with divorce papers by Sudeikis’s lawyers while on stage at Cinemacon, a star-studded film industry gathering in Las Vegas back in May.

Since then Wilde has been caught up in the drama surrounding Don’t Worry Darling, the movie she’s directing which stars Harry Styles and Florence Pugh.

There appears to be lots of stuff going on behind the scenes with that movie.and Sudeikis was criticised for the way Wilde received the divorce documents, which seemed to contradict his image in Ted Lasso as a nice guy.

“This show is about good and evil, this show is about the truth and lies, this show is about all that stuff,” he said at the ceremony. Whatever could he mean?

Meanwhile, Lee Jung-jae made history elsewhere by becoming the first person to win an acting award for a non-english language performance, for his role in Squid Game.

He’ll no doubt be offered a few big budget Hollywood roles as a result; instead of Squid Game he’ll be playing a Quids Game!
