HOW THEY PLAYED

- By Brian Fowlie

(3-5-2) GAVIN BAZUNU (7)

Didn’t have much to do before he could only watch as Hendry’s powerful header went sailing past him. Came up with a decent stop to deny Fraser from distance.

NATHAN COLLINS (7)

Got just enough of a touch on the ball in Scotland’s box to set-up Egan for Ireland’s goal in the 18th minute.

JOHN EGAN (8)

Came up from central defence to produce a fantastic finish that doubled his international goals tally to two.

DARA O’SHEA (7)

Made it uncomfortable for Scotland before the break and then had to defend more as the game wore on.

MATT DOHERTY (6)

Plenty of aggression and willingness to burst forward but will be disappointed he allowed Christie to waltz past him and cross for Scotland’s equaliser. (SEAMUS COLEMAN 76, 5)

JASON KNIGHT (7)

The young midfielder has bags of energy and played with a maturity impressive for a 21-year-old.

JOSH CULLEN (7)

Booked just before half-time for a foul on Mcginn and then sent Hickey tumbling a minute later but was not punished.

JAYSON MOLUMBY (7)

On hand to send the ball back into the danger area before his team scored in the first half. (ALAN BROWNE 76, 5. Conceded a penalty by handling five minutes after coming on).

JAMES MCLEAN (6)

Played as a wing-back, concentrating on stopping Scotland attacks. Acted as a nuisance on the left and pushed further forward occasionally. (ROBBIE BRADY 83, 5)

TROY PARROT (7)

Had the ball in Scotland’s net early on but was offside. Heaven knows why the linesman took so long to raise his flag. (CALLUM ROBINSON 76, 6. Not much of an impact)

MICHAEL OBAFEMI (6)

Some classy touches and darting runs. (CHIEDOZIE OGBENE 60, 6, couldn’t finish after a Gordon clearance came straight to him)

UNUSED SUBS — TRAVERS (Gk), O’LEARY (Gk), DUFFY, HOURIHANE, HENDRICK, HOGAN, O’DOWDA.
