Brown at the double as Gable Endies down Killie B

MONTROSE 4 Gardyne (17), Brown (74, 81), Johnston (89) KILMARNOCK B 2 Warnock (51, pen. 66)

Montrose substitute Craig Brown hit a late double to turn the tide and sink Kilmarnock B.

Killie came on strong early on as David Watson came close with a header that drifted wide and then saw a leftfoot shot from outside the box slip narrowly wide.

But the home side took the lead in the 17th minute with a well-worked goal. Blair Lyons swaggered into the Killie box and cut the ball back for Michael Gardyne to curl the ball into the top corner.

Innes Cameron almost equalised midway through the first half when he was clean through on Aaron Lennox but the keeper stood up well to frustrate him.

Teenager Steven Warnock should have done better five minutes later but Lennox was again well positioned to save.

Killie kept up the pressure and Aaron Brown beat Lennox with a first-time shot which hit the outside of the post.

Warnock was not far away when he curled a shot just wide of target with Lennox watching closely.

Montrose were always dangerous on the break and Lyons laid the ball off to Paul Watson shortly before half-time but he dragged his shot wide.

Killie equalised six minutes after the break when Warnock left Lennox flatfooted with a clever finish.

Rory Mcallister set up another chance for Watson moments later but his shot was just inches off target.

Warnock grabbed his second midway through the second period when Andrew Steeves handled in the penalty area and he drilled home the resultant spot-kick.

Montrose levelled with 16 minutes left when Gardyne laid the ball off for Craig Brown to net with a precise leftfoot shot from outside the area.

Brown then struck his second with another sweet finish from outside the area and Craig Johnston put the icing on the cake when he headed the fourth from a Steeves cross.
