City hit four past Blue Toon men

-

Right before half-time Kyle Connell had a great chance to double the visitors’ lead. Fastening on to a long ball from Ross Millen, the on-loan Kilmarnock striker skilfully dribbled past Mark Reynolds and Neill before striking right at Mckenzie.

On the 52nd minute Cove thought they had scored when Luis Longstaff bundled in a Vigurs cross, but it was ruled out for offside.

And when there were loud appeals for a red card waved away after Leighton Mcintosh went down when through on goal it looked increasingly like it would be Raith’s day.

Cove continued to pile on pressure but lacked the killer touch and Raith progressed.

Elgin booked their place in the next round of the SPFL Trust Trophy with an impressive 4-0 away win against Peterhead.

City grabbed the lead in the seventh minute when a great curling effort from Tony Dingwall gave Sandy Wood no chance in the Peterhead goal.

The Blue Toon then had efforts from Connor O’keefe, Paul Dixon and Jack Wilkie all expertly saved by Hobdan and Jason Brown should have done better with a closerange header but again the Elgin goalie was equal to it.

Elgin went two up after a slack pass from Andy Mcdonald was picked up by Dylan Lawrence who fed Kane Hester. The striker dinked the ball over Wood.

The Black and Whites started the second half brightly and Hester was unlucky when his left-footed drive was well saved by Wood.

Elgin went three up when Lawrence headed home from close range after Wood had parried Lewis Nicolson’s drive from the angle and Angus Mailer put the icing on the cake with a smart finish from a Tom Findlay assist to give Elgin a well deserved win.
