FALKIRK 2 FC EDINBURGH 0

Falkirk leapfrogged FC Edinburgh to move second in the table with a comfortable victory.

The hosts looked the more threatening early on and Robbie Mutch was well placed to hold a Callumn Morrison header. Morrison had another chance shortly after, but his shot was deflected wide of target.

Aidan Nesbitt was too high with a header, then Liam Henderson failed to hit the target from close range as FC Edinburgh escaped.

Coll Donaldson tested Mutch with a free-kick, which the goalkeeper slapped past the post, and, from the resulting corner, Mutch denied Henderson.

The breakthrough finally came seven minutes into the second half when Oluwasegun Lawal slipped his marker before beating Mutch from 20 yards with the aid of a deflection.

Callum Crane was not far away with a right-foot shot as FC Edinburgh responded, but Lawal almost added a second midway through the second half, his right-foot effort skipping wide.

Leon Mccann settled it with a wonderful solo strike with six minutes left, leaving defenders in his wake as he picked out the top corner.

ALLOA ATHLETIC 5 QUEEN OF THE SOUTH 1

Queen of the South went ahead after just two minutes when Gavin Reilly connected with a cross from Lewis Gibson to head in from close range.

Alloa got the equaliser their play deserved when Ross Maciver, standing in the centre of the visitor’s box, fired in a right-foot shot to beat Max Currie.

Three goals within five minutes changed the game in favour of The Wasps. Daniel Church scored in the 61st minute with a left-foot shot from the edge of the box. Then, three minutes later, George Stanger increased the home lead with a close-range header. Keiran Offord then hit the home side’s fourth when he fired home a shot into the bottom left corner.

Adam King netted a fifth for the home side when he blasted the ball past Currie from close range.

DUNFERMLINE 2 CLYDE 2

Clyde and Jim Duffy were two minutes away from a spectacular case of “New manager bounce”, but defender Kyle Benedictus – with his second penalty of the day – denied Duffy and also rescued Dunfermline’s unbeaten home record.

Clyde had lost 11 in a row under previous manager Danny Lennon, and they were soon under pressure as Craig Wighton’s header rattled the post.

The visitors then stunned Dunfermline with two clinical left-foot finishes from striker Jordan Allan – and their two-goal lead stayed intact until 20 minutes into the second half.

Benedictus halved the deficit from a penalty after Chris Mochrie was fouled, and, when Liam Scullion handled the ball just two minutes from time, Benedictus again calmly stepped up to make it 2-2.

AIRDRIEONIANS 1 PETERHEAD 1

Peterhead had the ball in the net in 16 minutes, but it was ruled out for offside.

They did, however, lead on 33 minutes after a corner, Julian Carre knocking the ball back to Jason Brown to force the ball into the net.

The visitors then hit the post a minute later and the danger was cleared.

Airdrie’s Rhys Mccabe went close with a 25-yard free-kick that keeper Tom Ritchie pushed on to the post and wide.

The Diamonds pursued an equaliser throughout the second half and eventually scored in the 88th minute after a long ball forward was well taken by Calum Gallagher on the edge of the box. His lay-off picked out Lewis Jamieson, who turned and fired the ball into the net past keeper Ritchie.

Cammy Ballantyne had a late chance to score the winner for the hosts, but his late effort was blocked.

KELTY HEARTS 1 MONTROSE 3

Montrose got a dream start with a second-minute goal when Rory Mcallister fastened on to a ball from Michael Gardyne to put the ball out of reach of the keeper.

Kelty had their first real chance on 15 minutes when Alfredo Agyeman was just off target with a header and, three minutes later, his effort from15 yards brought a diving save from Ross Sinclair.

Gardyne came close with a 20-yarder for the visitors on 20 minutes, Darren Jamieson saving, and 10 minutes later he came to the rescue again when he stopped a shot from Mcallister.

Kelty’s Alfredo Agyeman and Jamie Barjonas both saw shots blocked as they fought for the equaliser.

The Gable Endies lead didn’t last long as Barjonas drove the ball into the net six minutes after the restart with a fine 20-yarder to equalise.

Agyeman was causing all sorts of problems for Montrose and twice he came close, but both shots were saved.

It was end-to-end throughout and, just when it looked like a share of the points, Liam Callaghan’s pass found Graham Webster on 90 minutes and he shot home from close in to put the Gable Endies ahead.

Then, three minutes into stoppagetime, the Angus side made sure of the points with Craig Johnston hitting a great shot from just outside the six-yard box.
