Has Marc raring to go in Joburg

-

There is always the danger of too many voices, but Warren insists that he has found his own ideal blend.

And it’s why he is happy to fly to the other side of the world to end 2022 with three events in South Africa.

“I had started working with Matt and he was speaking to Ian about me of his own accord,” says the fourtime DP World Tour winner.

“He wanted Ian to look over old footage of my swing and to know what I’m like, on and off the course.

“The two have similar coaching philosophies so it made sense to use them both. I can work with Matt at events and then go and see Ian when

I’m at home.

“I trust Ian as much as anyone out there. He was my first coach when I was 13 and I worked with him for 12 years, so he knows my game inside out.

“For the first time in I don’t know how long, I’m working to progress my swing. Before it felt like I was just problem fixing.

“The other day, I went out and played nine holes. I made a few birdies and hit some nice shots, but more than anything I just played.

“I’m playing with freedom, whereas before – even I was playing

with friends – I was focusing on my swing.

“Before it felt like I was firefighting. It was a battle even if I did score well and a lot of things would need to go myway.

“Normally heading towards the winter, you’re thinking: ‘I’m going to work on this or that’ but I don’t feel any major changes are needed this time.”

Now Warren wants to translate his good vibes into good results. Although he considers South Africa a happy hunting ground.

He adds: “I‘ve been third in Joburg and I was in contention at Leopard Creek a few years ago, playing with David Drysdale on the last day.

“The courses are always in good nick, the people and food are great and I always enjoy going there.”
