THE BIG QUESTIONS

-

Surely my mate is having me on when he says that Status Quo weren’t the first band at Live Aid? – J

He is as, technically, the first music on the day, July 13, 1985, was performed by The Coldstream Guards Band. They opened proceedings with the Royal Salute and a short version of the National Anthem.

Status Quo were the first band on stage, opening with Rockin’ All Over The World, Caroline and Don’t Waste My Time.

I’ve always thought they were the cutest of beasts, but as I drove past a field of Highland cattle, I couldn’t help but wonder how long they have been around. Any ideas? – A

Highland cattle were first officially registered in 1885, when two distinct types were registered – the West Highland, or Kyloe, which came from the Hebrides, and the Mainland. The Kyloe were darker and smaller than their mainland siblings as conditions on the islands were harsher and the pastures had poorer nutrients, but the two have crossbred until there is no real distinction between the two. A hardy breed, it is raised mostly for its beef, and there are around 15,000 cows in Scotland today.

There was a lot of them, but can you list the names of the children in The Waltons, please? – P The historical drama ran for nine series, and was set between 1933 and 1945. It featured The Walton family, who lived in a house on Walton Mountain, Virginia.

The family were parents John and Olivia and their children, John-boy, Jason, Mary Ellen, Erin, Ben, twins Jim-bob & Joseph, and Elizabeth, not forgetting grandparents Zeb and Elizabeth.
