Cormorant can be a Candy sweet success

-

The Candy Cormorant has been picking up some really good fish recently as the water has cooled and cleared after seemingly constant rain.

It fishes well on a variety of lines, from a floater down to a DI3. But it is probably best fished with short pulls on a Fast Glass Line.

Fish that are feeding on fry often fall for its charms.

The hook is Kamasan B175 size-12 and the thread is Red Uni 8/0. The body is Medium Mirage Tinsel, the rib is Fine Silver Wire, and the wing is Candy Pink Marabou, tied sparsely.

The head should be varnished twice to make it stand out as a trigger point.

■ The fishing has been steady of late for most anglers at Banchory’s Raemoir Fishery, but some have had exceptional sessions.

Norman Fletcher returned 20, Andy Donald eight, Ian Sutherland six, and Ron Meldrum and Gaz Appleby had four apiece.

John Drummond had a fantastic day, netting 36 fish including one at 7lb 6oz.

Jim Farquhar beat his personal best by returning 29 fish.

The best flies have been Diawl Bachs, Squirmies, Glitter Worms, Ally Mccoist and Floating Fry.

■ At Culsalmond’s Loch Insch Fishery, flies have continued to hatch in good numbers and the fish have been feeding on top. Kevin Riley had a stunner weighing 13lb 1oz on a White Pearly Cormorant, Gilbert Duthie had one at 12lb 4oz on a White Snake, and Willie Mclennan had a grown-on brown trout of around 4lb on a Snake.

Paul Sharp had 25 on an Okey Dokey, Neil Smith returned 23 on a team of flies – including Fab, Cormorant and a UV Cruncher – while Gareth Walsh hooked 15 on a Natural Snake and Donny Geddes had 14 using an indicator and Shimmer Worms.
