Dom double in Blue Toon Cup of woe

-

PETERHEAD crashed out of the Cup 3-0 at home to QUEEN’S PARK.

The visitors took the lead when Dom Thomas hit a wind-assisted 35-yard screamer that flew into Tom Ritchie’s top-right corner. The same player hit a second when he struck home a delightful free-kick from a tight angle that seemed to deceive Ritchie. Danny Strachan then made Ferrie work in the Queen’s goal, but it was left to Grant Savoury to cap a hardearned cup win with a clever finish from 10 yards after good work.

An Andy Ryan hat-trick sent HAMILTON ACCIES sailing into in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup 4-0 against Lowland League title contenders EAST KILBRIDE. The breakthrough came in 38 minutes when Scott Martin slid a perfect pass through to Ryan, who crashed the ball high into the net from 15 yards. Accies secured their passage into the next round in 70 minutes when Lewis Smith and Martin combined to put Ryan through to slide the ball under Lyle. The third came soon after when Smith was again the provider for 16-year-old substitute Ryan One to drill home from six yards for his first goal for the club. Andy Ryan then completed his hat-trick in 75 minutes with a 25-yard lob.

MORTON were not troubled by QUEEN OF THE SOUTH and ran out 4-1 winners. Robbie Muirhead, with the aid of a deflection, sent his raking left-footed shot flying high into the net to open the scoring for Morton. Then Greenock goalie Brian Schwake could only parry an effort and Lewis Gibson followed up to net the rebound to level. The Cappielow men restored their lead when Muirhead sent a 25-yard free-kick high into the net. The issue was settled when Harry Cochrane upended Alex King, and Grant Gillespie made no mistake from the spot, before King netted a brilliant solo goal in stoppage-time.

■ In League 2, STRANRAER and ANNAN ATHLETIC settled for a 1-1 draw at a rain-soaked Stair Park. On seven minutes, Stranraer failed to deal with an Annan corner. Luke Scullion managed to block Tommy Goss’ initial effort, but the ball fell to Aidan Smith, who rifled home. Stranraer levelled just before the hour mark when Dean Hawkshaw bundled home from close range.
