Quick strikes set Buckie on winning way

-

FORMARTINE UTD 1 BUCKIE THISTLE 3

Two goals in two minutes put Buckie Thistle in charge of this Highland League Cup secondround tie and eventual victory.

Josh Peters’ strike was swiftly followed by a cool Scott Adams finish halfway through the first half.

Peters looked to have put the game out of sight when he scored a second eight minutes before the break, but Graeme Rodger pulled one back in the 43rd minute to give United hope.

It appeared to have changed the half-time team talk in the away dressing-room as Graeme Stewart’s men made sure they kept things tight at the back in the second half to progress.

BANKS O’ DEE 3 FORRES MECHANICS 2

Forres were first out of the blocks, Ryan Mcleman putting them in front after only five minutes, but it wasn’t long before that goal was cancelled out by Kane Winton.

Lewis Crosbie put Dee in front for the first time 20 minutes into the second half.

Jack Henderson seemed to have sealed a place in the semi-finals with a third in the 86th minute, but Callum Johnston made it a one-goal game once again a minute later.

There was no dramatic fightback, though, as the Spain Park side held on.

HUNTLY 5 WICK ACADEMY 2

In Highland League action, Andy Hunter spun sharply to drill the opener in off the post bang on the 20-minute mark.

Ross Still soon put Huntly two up and they grabbed a third in the space of 10 minutes when Angus Grant pressed Jack Henry into an error from a short goal-kick and slotted home.

Wick pulled one back a minute later with Gordon Macnab squaring for Mark Macadie to tap-in at the goal-line, then Henry atoned for his error, netting from a yard after Harry Hennem hit the post.

It remained 3-2 until timeadded. Jack Halliday’s dismissal opened up the space for Huntly to add two more, Cammy Blacklock and Hunter adding some sparkle to the scoreline.

KEITH 2 FRASERBURGH 2

Fraserburgh went ahead in the 16th minute. Paul Young spun on to Willie West’s throw-in and fired a low shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

The Maroons drew level three minutes into the second half when Kieran Yeats picked out Kieran Mooney and his leftfoot effort was neatly placed into the corner of the net from 12 yards.

Four minutes later, they completed the turnaround when Dem Yunus rattled a Mooney feed home from 14 yards.

Craig Reid then saved a Sean Butcher penalty, but Scott Barbour found a way past the robust keeper, picking out the top corner in the 80th minute to claim a point.

LOSSIEMOUTH 0 BRECHIN CITY 2

Lossie had a penalty claim waved away at the end of the first minute when Fraser Forbes appeared to have been hauled down.

There was little between the teams in the first half, but Brechin have profited from scoring late in either half this season and Grady Mcgrath kept that trend going as he drilled the ball low into the net at the back post.

Fraser Macleod gave City some breathing space halfway through the second half as he jinked one way then the other before slotting a shot into the corner of Logan Ross’ net.

TURRIFF UNITED 0 INVERURIE LOCOS 1

Murray Cormack hit an early chance just over the bar for Turriff, but it was to be 16-yearold midfield debutant Blair Smith who was to be the hero for this match when he was on hand to volley home after captain Greg Mitchell created danger on the right.

Turriff made a huge effort to get level in a rip-roaring tie and, in 70 minutes, should have levelled when Gordon was right in front of goal to meet a perfect cross from the left, but headed over.

Max Foster collected two yellows in quick succession late on.

STRATHSPEY TH 0 ROTHES 7

Fraser Robertson got Rothes off to a flying start with an early opener, signalling the potential of another long afternoon for the Jags.

Captain Bruce Milne made it two from a set-piece before forward Aidan Wilson added a third before the halfway point in the first half.

Gary Kerr got his name on the scoresheet once in each half to keep the score ticking over before Wilson grabbed his second and No. 6 for Rothes in the 70th minute.

The former ICT man then claimed his hat-trick from the penalty-spot to condemn Strathspey to a second successive 7-0 defeat.
