Windass brace blows Toon out of the cup

Former Rangers forward, Josh Windass, scored twice as League One Sheffield Wednesday pulled off the shock of the FA Cup Third Round.

His double gave the Owls a 2-1 win to dump out Premier League high-flyers Newcastle United at Hillsborou­gh.

Windass fired his side in front early in the second half, with replays showing he appeared to be offside. But there was no VAR to check.

He struck a second in the 66th minute when he ran clear to slot past Martin Dubravka.

The Magpies, who sit third in the Premier League, pulled one back through Bruno Guimaraes from a corner.

Windass crashed a 25-yard free-kick against the crossbar before Chris Wood blazed a late chance over.

At Anfield, Liverpool and Wolves shared four goals. Wolves opened the scoring through Gonçalo Guedes after a howler from Reds keeper Allison gifted him the ball.

On the stroke of half-time, Liverpool equalised as Trent Alexander-arnold crossed for Darwin Nunez to cushion a superb volley low past Matija Sarkic. Liverpool went ahead in the 52nd minute through Mo Salah, but Wolves drew level when sub Hwang Hee-chan found the net from six yards. Toti Gomes thought he had won the game for Wolves late on, but he was deemed offside.

Championsh­ip strugglers Blackpool shocked Premier League Nottingham Forest with a 4-1 win at Bloomfield Road.

Marvin Ekpiteta put the home side ahead following a corner in the 17th minute with Ian Poveda-ocampo adding a second just after the hour.

CJ Hamilton drilled in a third with sub Jerry Yates adding a late fourth before Ryan Yates headed in a consolatio­n.

Harry Kane moved to within one of Jimmy Greaves’ goalscorin­g record as his second-half strike helped Tottenham beat League One Portsmouth 1-0.

World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister scored twice as Brighton won 5-1 at Middlesbro­ugh.

The Argentina midfielder came off the bench in the second half and scored his first goal with a fine flick finish before adding another late on.

Southampto­n came from behind to win 2-1 at Crystal Palace. Odsonne Edouard, gave the hosts an early lead before Saints midfielder James Ward-prowse equalised from a free-kick.

Adam Armstrong then tapped in the winner in the 68th minute.

David Moyes’ West Ham won 1-0 at Brentford, where Said Benrahma came off the bench to score a long-range goal against his former club.

Former Celt Scott Brown’s Fleetwood Town side booked their place in the next round with a 2-1 win over QPR.

Sam Field had given the visitors the lead, but Aristote Nsiala headed an equaliser before the break and Promise Omochere struck the winner in the second half.

Non-league Chesterfie­ld were denied their own shock victory over West Brom, who hit a stoppage-time equaliser to snatch a 3-3 draw at the Technique Stadium.

National League side Wrexham produced another upset with a thrilling 4-3 win at Championsh­ip Coventry City, who finished with 10 men.
