Inverness Caledonian Thistle boss Duncan Ferguson was sent off as his side deservedly defeated Queen’s Park 4-1 at Hampden after falling foul of referee Craig Napier for a second time. However, it was Spiders head coach Robin Veldman who was on his way afterwards.

The defeat saw the Spiders move to four months without a league success and the club confirmed later in the evening that they had parted company with the Dutchman.

Queens grabbed the opening goal on 10 minutes when Ben Mcpherson gathered possession before finding Dom Thomas. He sent over a cross that just eluded Ruari Paton but Jack Turner controlled the ball and slid it into the net.

Inverness equalised on 21 minutes when Nathan Shaw raced down the right wing and his cut back was perfect for Max Anderson to send a low shot past Calum Ferrie from 18 yards.

Billy Mckay had a goal chopped off for offside on 35 minutes with Ferguson, who had been given an earlier warning after what looked like a handball in the home box went unpunished, yellow-carded for expressing his disappointment.

Ferguson’s frustration grew even greater three minutes alter as Ferrie pulled off a triple save to keep out efforts from Shaw, Mckay and Anderson.

Despite being under pressure the Spiders almost regained the lead five minutes from the break as Jack Thomson took aim from 16 yards only to send his shot thumping against the bar.

Ferguson was dismissed after further complaints when Shaw went down in the box and no penalty was awarded.

The Highlanders boss was delighted just before the hour mark when his side took the lead in simple fashion when Ujdur headflicked home a Cameron Harper corner from close range.

It got even better for Inverness with 15 minutes left when an intricate passing move allowed David Wotherspoon to spin away from Lewis Reid and fire home a fierce shot from eight yards. Wotherspoon was fouled by Cameron Bruce on 80 minutes on the touchline and that allowed Mckay to roll home a penalty to complete the scoring. Ferguson said: “The sending off was a bit harsh. I did not swear but he said I was waving my arms about too much. I am not going to let it ruin my day and a great performance from my players.”
