Magnificent Morrison is simply unstoppable

-

FALKIRK 4 EDINBURGH CITY 1

Callumn Morrison scored all four goals as champions-elect Falkirk stayed unbeaten in League One, but the Bairns were unable to celebrate clinching the title after closest rivals Hamilton grabbed a dramatic late win at Cove.

Having got so close yesterday, Falkirk’s next opportunity will be away to Montrose next week.

The capital club initially frustrated Falkirk yesterday before conceding a 30th-minute penalty when Frankie Deane fouled Sean Mackie. Morrison scored from the spot and then doubled his team’s advantage in first-half stoppage time.

He completed his hat-trick from Calvin Miller’s assist shortly after the hour mark and later added a second penalty after being fouled by Callum Flatman.

Momodou Sambou pulled one back for the visitors in the 90th minute.

COVE RANGERS 1 HAMILTON 3

Cove were a whisker away from taking the lead from Fraser Fyvie’s inswinging corner, but play moved quickly to the other end and Hamilton opened the scoring on 12 minutes when Reghan Tumilty’s effort went in with the aid of a deflection.

Connor Scully hit a belter of a leveller when he took the pass from Rumarn Burrell and fired into the top corner.

The game swung the Accies way again when a spell of pressure produced two goals. The crucial strike came from pointblank range, Euan Henderson firing it into the back of the net following a corner. Three minutes later, Kevin O’hara let fly with a stunning strike from distance that flew into the top corner of the net.

ANNAN 3 KELTY HEARTS 2

The Maroon Machine opened strongly and Reece Lyon brought a fine save from Annan keeper Greg Fleming after only four minutes.

Annan’s first chance came in the 15th minute, but Tommy Goss’ shot from 12 yards was blocked by a defender. Then, in the 26th minute, Benjamin Luissiant set up Aidan Smith to shoot the home side into the lead. Annan kept up the pressure and, in the 35th minute, Smith turned provider and Lewis Hunter obliged by shooting home.

The home fans had hardly stopped cheering when their side went 3-0 and it looked all over for Kelty. Luissant picked up a through-ball from Josh Galloway and hit the bottom corner of the Kelty net in the 38th minute.

Two minutes later, player-manager Michael Tidser brought his side back into the game when he beat Fleming with a 25-yard shot.

Kelty came out fighting after the interval and, in the 48th minute, it was game on when Craig Johnston fired home to make it 3-2.

Tommy Goss came close for the home side in the 63rd minute, but his header was saved by Kyle Gourlay.

In the 77th minute, Luissint had a chance to increase the home side’s lead, but his shot was saved.

Tam O’ware was then red-carded as Kelty went down to 10 men and, deep into stoppage time, Reece Lyon almost got the vital leveller for Kelty, but Reece Lyon shot over the bar.

ALLOA ATHLETIC 0 QOS 2

The Doonhamers took a deserved lead early in the first half when Joel Mumbongo was on hand to connect with a perfect cross from Lee Connelly and fired home.

Alloa came close when Kurtis Roberts ran in on the visiting defence and fired in a right-foot shot from the edge of the box that went just too high.

The home side were more dominant in the second half and Steven Buchanan had a right-foot shot saved by Harry Stone, and a shot from Ethan Sutherland was saved and cleared. Kevin Cawley then came close for the Wasps with a shot that was just a bit high.

The visitors’ second goal came late in the match when Craig Mcguffie fired in an unstoppable shot past PJ Morrison.

STIRLING ALB 1 MONTROSE 0

Classy Kieran Offord secured Stirling a dramatic late victory to stun promotionchasing Montrose at Forthbank. The onloan St Mirren striker pounced in injury time following an assist by Greig Spence to hit a deserved winner for Darren Young’s men.

It means Stewart Petrie’s Montrose remain fourth in the table after failing to take advantage of rivals Alloa slipping up at home to Queen of the South.

The hosts carved out most of the first-half chances, although their Angus visitors threatened first in the eighth minute when Kane Hester fired wide.

Midway through the first half, Dale Hilson produced some magic before seeing his effort pushed round the post by visiting keeper Cammy Gill.

Stirling’s Kyle Banner watched his right-foot shot from edge of the box sail just over the bar midway through the second half. But the battling Binos weren’t to be denied and super sub Offord held off two Montrose defenders and kept his cool to slot past Gill.
