Cafe Fairfull

12 High Street, Paisley, PA1 2BS

-

Looking back in the Scone Spy chronicles, Scotland’s biggest town seems to have gone largely incognito.

Despite having plenty of highly-rated eateries on offer, Paisley hasn’t featured on this page for a good while, so this week I thought I’d rectify that.

I’d eyed up one of the most colourful spots in town – the gloriously purple exterior of Cafe Fairfull.

In stark contrast to the grey sky outside on this (allegedly) spring day, this bright and sparkly jewel is just a couple of shades away from looking like it’s straight out of the Barbie movie.

Owned by Elaine Fairfull, the cafe has sat on the High Street for more than 12 years and has become a much-loved local treasure.

The team’s talented bakers produce thousands of cakes every week to satisfy demand for farmer’s markets, wholesale orders and the cafe itself.

Step inside and the whole place is slightly twinkling, with star lights on the ceiling glittering away. If the annual ordeal of checking if the Christmas tree lights still work is anything to go by, I dread to think what it’s like when one bulb goes...

Just as sparkling is the incredible cake cabinet that greets you on entry, positively glowing with tasty traybakes, stunning cakes and, of course, the all-important scones.

There’s a bit of everything for whatever size of meal you’re after. It would indeed be tempting to have breakfast, lunch and dinner here.

There are rolls, toasties, sandwiches and soups and if you’re after something bigger, pizza, pasta, chicken wings, hot dogs and steak pie.

We share a couple of cakes. The chocolate cake (an Easter special) is sensational and comes in a turbo slice topped with chocolate eggs.

My dentist is just along the road – I hope he doesn’t walk by at any point!

Then there’s the scone, which is an absolute triumph.

Served warm it crumbles perfectly and is fluffier than the softest of pillows inside.

With such delicious as sizeable bakes, you’ll leave fair full!
