Kia’s hot hatch is brisk, alert and fun

- By Alisdair Suttie

The only real complaint I have is the exhaust note is a touch too muted for a hot hatch, though Kia says the GT is not intended as a raw sports car, so I’ll let it off the hook here.

The up-side to the hushed exhaust is the Pro_cee’d GT is a great car for covering plenty of miles.

Ridges and ruts are smoothed out to keep occupants comfortable and there’s also more than enough grip to make cornering fun and failsafe — though a bit more feel through the steering would edge the GT further up the hot hatch rankings.

Even so, the Pro_cee’d GT is great to drive, offering that essential fun factor — and it hints there could be more to come from Kia in the hot hatch stakes.

There’s no arguing either with the amount of equipment the Pro_cee’d GT includes as standard.

The entry- point GT has air conditioning, half-leather seats, sporty body kit, Recaro sports front seats, cruise control and a dash that lets the driver choose from different displays to suit their driving mood.

All of this comes in at £19,995, which is a bargain for a car of this ability and with this amount of kit.

You can also spend an extra £2,500 for the GT Tech — it comes with satellite navigation, heated front seats, keyless entry and starting, and automatic wipers and headlights.

The equipment count makes a convincing case for the Pro_cee’d GT, but it’s the way this Kia drives that makes it one of the most appealing hot hatches of the year.
