It’s great to be back in the groove

-

JOHN SUTTON produced his best performance since returning to Motherwell in the summer.

And after two consecutive defeats, Sutton was especially pleased with his first goal of the season.

He said: “It is great to get the monkey of your back and get your first goal of the season. I scored 17 goals in my first spell here and it gives me something to aim for.

“I also think I can create a good partnership with Henri (Anier) as we have only started once together.”

The ‘Well striker was honest enough to admit that there was little between the sides and that Thistle are not to be underestimated.

He said: “We still were not at our best but we created a lot more chances today. But you have to give credit to Thistle. Although they have just come up, they will compete well against teams in the higher end of the table and that was a good win for us against them.’’

Sutton and both bosses agreed that Motherwell should have killed the game after his first half strike. But their failure to do so gave Thistle a fighting chance right up until the final whistle.

Sutton still felt that it was a confidence boost for the home side and said: “From our point of view we should be looking upwards. We believe we have a lot of ability in our dressing room. That was a good win and leaves us looking towards another win next Saturday.”
