Don’t miss out — catch the last of the Fringe highlights

- By Katie Wood

IT’S nearing its end so if you want to see the last of the Fringe or the Book Festival, you’d better get your skates on!

But do remember that the official Edinburgh International Festival runs until September 1 when the Virgin Money Fireworks Concert brings the 2013 Festival season to an awe-inspiring conclusion.

Set against the magnificent backdrop of Edinburgh Castle, the evening brings together the dynamic playing of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra with an incredible concert-long fireworks display, specially choreographed to the music. Seats are still available at £12.50, but hurry! Call 0131 473 2000.

The word from the official fest is that they are pleased with the way audiences are supporting it.

But, even though there have been lots of tickets snapped up, there are still opportunities to see some great performers and shows — including Michael Gambon in Eh Joe, Peter Egan in First Love and the fabulous LA Dance making their UK debut with a work by Black Swan choreographer Benjamin Millepied. What I most enjoyed this past week was: The Magnets, Udderbelly Bristo Square, are a superb and highly original six-man a cappella and beatboxing group — one of Britain’s hottest world-touring music acts.

These singing stars are a six-man sound machine, fusing harmonies with jaw-dropping beatboxing in a fun, lively theatrical show packed with great tunes for all ages. While their choreography might need a bit more polishing, their vocal work is spot on.
