Gary Mac: Kenny could have gone on for years
KENNY MILLER (right) could have had YEARS more playing for Scotland, writes DANNY STEWART.
That’s the view of his fellow Hall of Famer and ex-national skipper Gary McAllister.
The former Liverpool star retired from the international game himself in 1999 at the age of 34.
That decision though, was made in response to the way he had been booed by the Tartan Army when making a comeback in a 2-1 defeat to the Czech Republic and he was still playing regular club football at 38.
“At 33 years old I could have seen Kenny carrying on for years yet,” said McAllister.
“I am a big fan of his. He has been a fantastic player for every team he has ever played for.
“In particular, he has been outstanding for Scotland.
“I have been fortunate enough to see almost all his games for us and every time he goes on the park you know what you are going to get.
“He is often asked to play in systems where he is the lone striker. It is a hard thing to do but he never lets us down.
“He holds the line well and doesn’t shirk his responsibility as our main goal-getter.
“There were a few people surprised he started at Wembley but he proved the manager right.
“I believe Kenny will also have been keen to give the younger lads an opportunity but he will definitely be a loss for us.”
