How to pack it like a pro
From finding the right suitcase to filling it properly, our sister publication No.1 magazine is here to help you avoid holiday packing hell.
Hard or soft-sided?
CHOOSING the right luggage is key. A hard-sided case can add up to 10lbs of unnecessary weight, but it will definitely give the contents more protection from damage or any unexpected downpours. The downside of a hard-sided case is that there’s little leeway if you are overpacking, while a fabric case will offer more flexibility.
Travelling with kids?
A FIRM favourite with parents is the Trunki case – a luggage set-up for children that doubles as a toy. Available in a range of different designs and colours, children can also ride on it – which is a great way to avoid any strops in the airport! Not only is it great for keeping your child entertained, their travel essentials can be stored inside whether that’s nappies, a few toys or even their favourite blanket. Plus you can take the Trunki on as hand luggage. Buy it from trunki.co.uk for £34.99.
Protecting valuables
PACKING your jewellery is a lot simpler if you’re doing it the right way. Set your necklaces between two sheets of cling-film and they won’t slide around and become knotted or tangled. Another trick for necklaces is to feed them through a straw before fastening them – there’s no chance of knots then. Store smaller items of jewellery such as earrings and rings in empty lip balm containers or pill case compartments.
Keep it fresh
KEEP the contents of your case smelling fresh by putting scented drawer liners in between the layers of your luggage. Alternatively, dot one or two bags of pot-pourri among your clothes – this is great if you’re on a long-haul journey.
