Reynolds eyeing a first victory

- By Sean Hamilton sport@sundaypost.com

MARK REYNOLDS has only ever faced Rangers as an underdog.

That’s why the Aberdeen star can’t wait to go head-to-head with the Gers today – as a Red-hot favourite.

Reynolds has racked up 16 appearances against Rangers over his career, 15 with Motherwell and one with Aberdeen.

He hasn’t played on the winning side once.

But the four-and-a-half years since Reynolds last faced the Ibrox men have brought enormous transformation for both Aberdeen and the Gers.

And he insists the modern-day, title-chasing Dons are ready to hammer home their top dog status over Mark Warburton’s Premiership newcomers.

“It’s different now because I’d always been in a changing room where the Rangers team was a lot stronger and you always faced them as the underdog,” said Reynolds.

“For today’s fixture, we are a very strong team and a different changing room.

“At Motherwell, you went into it thinking, ‘I hope we can do well, I hope we can hold our own, I hope we can get a result.’

“In this changing room we feel, if we play well, as if we can go and get a result against even Celtic, who are Champions.

“It’s the same going into this game. If we turn up, play well and do what we want to do then we’ve more than enough to win the game.”

For decades now, meetings between Aberdeen and Rangers have been spicier than your average clash – particularly at Pittodrie.

But has absence made the heart grow fonder? No chance.

“Everyone has been waiting on Rangers to come back for these big fixtures,” said Mark.

“But for us it’s all about getting three points, the biggest fixture for us is always the next one.

“The main thing for us is when we come out and feel the atmosphere and feel how much the fans want to do well, we feed off that.”
